IMS (Insulated Metal Substrate) is one of the growing technical sectors in the PCB industry today. The thermal dissipation requirements on assemblies due to high power components have driven the need for thermally conductive dielectrics. LEDs, power supplies, AC/DC converters are typical sectors that require IMS. This talk will review types of materials available, reliability, and testing of these materials. Rigid and flexible applications will be reviewed.
Integrating thermal management technologies into complex multilayer PCBs has allowed designers to reduce weight, cost, manufacturing cycle time, while increasing reliability and performance. The presentation will introduce advanced new materials that revolutionize the thermal management of the PCB. In addition, design rules, manufacturing and costs will be discussed.
